Language Learning, ESL, and ESOL Resources

The Charlotte and William Bloomberg Medford Public Library offers a plethora of resources for ESL students. The Library does not offer English classes but we can help connect you with other local resources such as the SABES ESOL Center.

World Language Learning books are available within the Minuteman Library System including on the Libby App by OverDrive. At the Medford Public Library, you can find World Language Learning books within the 400’s and ESL and Literacy resources are located directly behind the Reference Desk. Additionally, the Medford Public Library has a Spanish and Italian collection.

Mango is designed to equip you with conversational abilities from the very start. Mango immerses you in real, everyday conversations in a wide variety of foreign languages. It also features ESL instruction in English, tailored for speakers of more than a dozen languages.

For learners of all levels looking to build their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a foreign language. Combining extensive courses and supplemental resources for over 100 languages, including English.

Learning Express: Recursos para Hispanohablantes has Spanish learning, career, and citizenship tools.

Borrow digital video, music and audiobooks. Access thousands of titles and watch on your smartphone, tablet or computer. Hoopla offers titles and films in some world languages.

Acorn TV content is available on hoopla!

Kanopy is an on-demand streaming video service that offers thousands of award-winning films and documentaries. Films in world languages are available.

Borrow popular eBooks, audiobooks, magazines and streaming video from Minuteman’s shared collection. Books in world languages are available.

Spanish encyclopedia for older students and educators.

K-8 encyclopedia for native speakers and students learning Spanish.

Pressreader is available through the Boston Public Library. Color full-page and article reproductions of thousands of U.S. and international newspapers and magazines in world languages. You will need a BPL Library Card to access Pressreader. You can sign up for a BPL Library card at https://www.bpl.org/ecard/

Each year our trained volunteers provide free one-to-one English language tutoring and small group instruction to hundreds of adult learners in 21 Boston-area cities and towns, helping them improve their English language skills, adapt to American life, and participate in their communities.

Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts (LVM) trains volunteers who provide free, confidential, and individualized tutoring to adults in basic literacy and English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

At the SABES ESOL Center we continue to develop and deliver high-quality professional development opportunities to support your instructional practices in the remote, blended, or face-to-face environment.
