MakerSpace FAQ
How do I get trained to use the MakerSpace or Tech Lab unsupervised?
All you need to do is take our General Safety class and sign our liability waiver. You can find upcoming badge classes and sign up here, or contact one of our instructors.
How do I get trained to use the 3d printer/cutting machine/laser cutter/sewing machine?
In addition to General Safety, you can sign up for our equipment-specific badge classes here.
Can I reserve the MakerSpace or Tech Lab and bring my friends?
Only if those friends are also badged in General Safety!
I want to become a volunteer! How do I get started?
We love our volunteers! You can get started by emailing medmakerspace@minlib.net.
Your programs are always full! How do I sign up for them without getting waitlisted?
Registration for each month of programs opens at 9:00 AM on the first day of the previous month. For example, you can start registering for February’s programs at 9:00 AM on January 1. We recommend looking at our calendar in advance so that you can sign up for classes as soon as registration opens. This doesn’t guarantee that you won’t be waitlisted, but does make it less likely.
Can children use the MakerSpace?
Children ages 8+ cannot receive badges, but they can be in the MakerSpace or Tech Lab as long as they are actively supervised by a parent/guardian at all times. Minors ages 16+ can be badged to use the MakerSpace or Tech Lab independently if an adult caregiver signs their liability waiver.
What if my question isn’t answered here or on the main MakerSpace page?
You can email the MakerSpace Coordinator at medmakerspace@minlib.net.
