Pathfinders

A pathfinder is a topic-specific resource curated by your teen librarians to help you get started with your research projects. We have a growing list of pathfinders to help you navigate our physical book collection and electronic resources!

Online Resources

You have access to a wide variety of online resources through the Minuteman Library Network. You can find the complete list here, but we’ve pulled out a select few that are teen-specific. Some resources will require you to enter your library card number to sign in.

Britannica Middle School – Offers high-quality online learning materials that have been developed by teachers and curriculum experts.

Britannica High School – Offers high-quality online learning materials that have been developed by teachers and curriculum experts.

Britannica Young Adult – Contains magazine articles, a homework help section, a world atlas, Merriam-Webster dictionaries and thesauri, a Spanish-English dictionary, and video and audio content.

Onefile High School Edition – Find information on high school research topics plus pop culture, sports, and more the arts, science, popular culture, health, people, government, history, sports and more.

Pop Culture Collection – This collection provides useful information for any researcher in a social science, history, art or liberal arts course. This collection is made up of 100 subject-appropriate full-text periodicals.

Communications and Mass Media Collection – This collection provides information from more than 100 journals focused on  the communications field. Key subjects covered include: marketing, advertising and public relations, literature and writing, linguistics, and more.

Fine Arts and Music Collection – With more than 100 full-text magazines and journals covered in databases such as the Wilson Art Index and RILM, this collection provide resources to support research in areas such as drama, music, art history, and filmmaking.

NoveList – Not sure what to read next? Find read-a-likes, recommendations, and more, all curated by librarians and publishing insiders.

Digital Commonwealth Historical Collections – This site provides access to photographs, manuscripts, books, audio recordings, and other materials of historical interest that have been digitized and made available by members of Digital Commonwealth, a statewide consortium of libraries, museums, archives, and historical societies from across Massachusetts.

Milestone Documents in American History – This database pairs primary source documents with analytical essays and commentary, providing students of history a full understanding of each document’s importance and historical context.

Opposing Viewpoints in Context – Covers timely issues, from capital punishment to immigration to marijuana. This cross-curricular resource supports science, social studies, current events, and language arts classes. Informed, differing views help learners develop critical-thinking skills and draw their own conclusions.

 

 

Environmental Studies and Policy Collection – This collection provides multiple viewpoints of the field of environmental issues and policy including perspectives from the scientific community, governmental policy makers, as well as corporate interests.

Health and Medicine – This resource includes articles on: Fitness, Pregnancy, Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health & Safety, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, and more. 

Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Collection – This collection covers the fields of physical therapy and sports medicine, providing researchers with access to topics discussed in the field, including proven treatment techniques, experimental research theses, and many more.

Mango Languages – Mango is designed to equip you with conversational abilities from the very start. Mango immerses you in real, everyday conversations in a wide variety of foreign languages. It also features ESL instruction in English, tailored for speakers of more than a dozen languages.

kanopy – An on-demand streaming video service that offers thousands of award-winning documentaries, training films and theatrical releases across diverse subjects and disciplines. This service provides access to films and documentaries from a variety of independent filmmakers and distributors, including the BBC, PBS and the Criterion Collection.
