Mom and Baby Yoga

Welcome to a nurturing space for new moms to reconnect with their yoga practice while bonding with their little ones. The yoga practice focuses on mom and many poses incorporate your baby. Sessions focus on stretching, core integration, pelvic floor strengthening, and meditative techniques to help navigate the path of new motherhood. Through gentle poses and interactive activities with their babies, moms can find strength and relaxation, along with a supportive community environment. Join us as we celebrate the journey of motherhood and rediscover the joy of yoga together.

This class is specifically geared towards new moms, and babies who have not yet reached the crawling and walking stages.

Caregivers of all genders and all yoga levels are welcome to join in this class. Registration is required; one registration covers both you and your baby (or babies).  By registering for this yoga class, you agree that you do so at your own risk, are voluntarily participating in these activities, assume all risk of injury to yourself and your baby (or babies), and agree to release and discharge the Charlotte & William Bloomberg Medford Public Library, YogaHub LLC., and YogaHub instructors from any and all claims or causes of action, known or unknown.

For questions regarding registration, please contact Sam at sdonahue@minlib.net.

FAQ

At what age can babies attend Mom and Baby Yoga?

Babies typically attend Mom and Baby Yoga classes starting around 6 weeks old, once they have received clearance from their pediatrician. Classes are suitable for babies up to around 9 months old or until they become mobile.

Do I need yoga experience to attend Mom and Baby Yoga?

No prior yoga experience is necessary. Mom and Baby Yoga classes are suitable for all levels, including beginners.

What should I bring to class?

Moms should bring a yoga mat, baby essentials (diapers, wipes, etc.), a baby carrier or blanket, water bottle, comfortable clothing, extra layers, any special items for the baby, snacks if needed, and any necessary medication. A positive attitude and openness to bonding with your baby are also encouraged.

Can I feed or change my baby during class?

Absolutely! Mom and Baby Yoga classes are designed to accommodate the needs of both mom and baby. Feel free to feed, change, or comfort your baby as needed during the class.

Is there a designated area for breastfeeding?

While there is no designated area, we are committed to providing a supportive environment and moms are welcome to breastfeed from their mats. Moms looking for privacy may step away to a more secluded area such as the alcove near set off from our yoga space or the quiet room at the back of the Children’s Room.

What if my baby cries during class?

It’s completely normal for babies to cry, and our group understands. Feel free to tend to your baby’s needs as necessary. You can also use soothing techniques and gentle movements to help calm your baby during the class.

Is it safe to practice yoga postpartum?

Consult with your physician if you have any concerns about returning to regular activity and exercise. Mom and Baby Yoga classes are designed with the postpartum body in mind. However, it’s essential to listen to your body, be gentle with yourself, take breaks, and modify as needed.
