In-Library Resources

AWE Early Literacy Station Computer

The library is home to one (1) AWE Early Literacy Station All-In-One Computer. This computer is pre-loaded with over 250 early learning games and stories and is free for your child to use during your library visit. The AWE Computer is designed with our littlest patrons in mind and features a colorful, durable keyboard and mouse and full touchscreen. It is completely ad-free and does not have access to the internet, so you can relax knowing your child is only accessing safe and fun educational content. We do ask that you limit your usage to 30 minutes per visit to ensure that all our friends can have a turn.

Early Reader Collection

The Children’s Room has a special collection developed especially with emerging readers in mind. Our Early–or EASY–Reader Collection is located right next to our picturebooks and is loaded with books for beginning readers of all levels. Look here for Elephant and PiggieKatie Woo, decodable books, and more. Want to learn more about early readers? Check out this handy guide here.

Library Programs

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Research shows that children who regularly read with an adult start Kindergarten at a significant advantage compared to those children who don’t. 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is an ongoing program that promotes reading to newborns, infants, and toddlers, and encourages families to bond through reading. The goal is to read 1,000 books before starting Kindergarten. You can learn more about this program by clicking here.

Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a weekly program that happens on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5pm. During this time, emerging readers can “check out” one of our teen volunteer Reading Buddies for 30 minutes to practice their reading skills. Reading Buddies offer an encouraging ear and only jump in to help when asked by their reader. Registration is not required, but there may be a wait on afternoons when we are busy.

Reading with Ryan

Ryan the Reading Dog joins us once a month to help emerging readers practice their skills, typically on the last Thursday of the month at 6pm. Each participant is given a 15 minute slot, during which they can read anything they’d like to Ryan, who lends a nonjudgmental, listening ear. Registration is required.
